Networking is still an extremely important aspect of creating long-lasting relationships in business. Some entrepreneurs are lucky enough that the skill of networking just comes naturally. For the rest of us that practice with themselves in the mirror to prepare, it definitely helps to have some pointers tucked into your back pocket to think about when the time comes.

Ivan Misner from entrepreneur.com wrote a quick and easy article on some body languages cues to pay attention to that will put you one step ahead when networking. Some of the tips that he includes are:

Eye Contact

Eye Contact: Probably one of the most important aspects is to keep your eye contact with the person you are speaking to. Give that person your full attention and they will give you theirs.
Arm Position: Your arm positioning can give the person you are speaking with the wrong idea (or the right idea) so be aware of where you are holding your arms. Keep your chest and body open to encourage openness. It tells your networking partner "I'm listening".
Stance: Pay attention to how you are standing. Are you leaning on something or acting like you are tired or bored? Be aware of how you are perceived and make sure you are prepared for handshakes and business card exchanges so keep those hands free and ready!

Of course with any networking event make sure you're prepared with business cards. Even in this day and age with smart phones and tablets it is extremely important to have clean, professional cards that really pack a punch.
