The job market can be very tough these days. Everyone is looking for their dream job and employers are swamped with applicants. How do you stand out in a crowd like that? How do you make them remember you over other candidates?

There are certain things you can do to help assure that you get that callback. Below we will give you some tips and tricks to help you in the job market.

  1. FOLLOW UP. After an interview, or a resume submission it is important you find out who to contact and how to get in touch with them. Whether its by email or phone.  It is always important to follow up with a contact.
  2. Dress appropriately to an interview. No matter what job you are looking for, always, always, always dress appropriately. For men: Nice dress shirts and khakis – shirt buttoned. For women: An appropriate dress or nice dress slacks with appropriate top. Dress sharp to get the part.
  3. Practice before EVERY interview. The old "practice in front of a mirror" routine. Go online and research several questions that a potential employer might ask. Keep in mind some ask ridiculous questions to see how you'll respond. Write out a list and practice your answers in front of a mirror. Get comfortable with your answers so you can sound confident during the interview.
  4. Research the company. This is important. Look up the company you're applying for before the interview. Take notes and remember the things you look up, they could be useful during your interview. Find out what projects they have done, what companies they work with, and how many employees they have as well as how long they have been around. Any other information will only be helpful. If you show potential employers you're interested in their company that exudes a very good first impression.
  5. Speak Clearly. It is important to make sure that, during the interview, you speak clearly and at a decent pace. Don’t sound too excited and don't sound too uninterested. Sound knowledgeable and you are sure to get potential employers' attention
  6. Ask questions. After the person who has interviewed you concludes their inquiry, make sure to ask questions. These are questions about the position or any question that pertains to the company. Make sure you outline these questions ahead of time. Asking questions shows that you are engaged.
  7. Present your business card after the interview. Business cards can be very useful when looking for a job. They help identify you to employers after an interview. They also show potential employers that you are a classy professional.

Using these tips is sure to give you confidence on your next interview.
